What if you could control world events?

Meet the Caldwell family. They have a secret. Actually, they have a lot of secrets. Most importantly, they have a gateway to another world in their basement. They are the only humans on earth who know of its existence.

When the Japanese bombers fly over Pearl Harbor and demolish parts of Hawaii, the eldest Caldwell son is in this other world. Amazingly, an enemy attacks there too? Are the two instances related?
