Foreivord The Story of Ullliayn Rainey Harper was published originally as a supplement to the university of Chicago MAGAZINE, June, 1941. It commemorated the fiftieth anniversary of the University of Chicago and was written for the MAGAZINE by Milton Mayer. In the fall of 1956 it was republished to commemorate the centennial of Harper sbirth (J uly 24, 1856) and the quinquagenary of his death (J anuary 10, 1906). It appeared in three parts in the October, November, and December issues of the magazine. So popular was this second publishing that the Alumni Association could not meet all the requests for extra copies. This reprint is published to meet these requests, in a format to keep pace with the young man in a hurry.
