Alone With The Gods

The global recession deepens and fuel prices continue to rise. Governments lend huge sums of money to keep the banking systems functioning, which is never seen again.

Budget cuts to the police, high unemployment and crime lead to rioting, civil disorder and a break down in transportation and within a year entire cities cease to function.

Juliane has a plan; to return to the abandoned family farm in Spain and replant it, where she knows she can survive.

In Sheffield in the UK, William, a tragic alcoholic scrapes together the pennies for another bottle of whiskey.

He will soon have to learn the lessons the world has been trying to teach him and discover the strength, faith and leadership which he has buried deep inside.

The adventure follows a group of refugees as they face a perilous journey, through streets owned by gangs and looting mobs, through blazing sun and frozen peaks, from the abandoned steel mills of Sheffield to the beautiful mountains of the Pyrenees.

The adventure combines personal and local events with the current global problems and asks the question "What will happen if nothing changes at all?"

About the author

David Bryan was born in Sheffield in the UK in 1981.

In 2008 he wandered out into the Pyrenees Mountains in Northern Spain and walked alone for 44 days from one coast to the other.

After returning, he travelled around the US and eventually married his Michigan born girlfriend.

They returned to Sheffield and David began to follow his life long interest in creative writing.

He currently works in administration during the day, as a journalist for www.postcodegazette.com during the night and as a landscape photographer at the weekend.

Completing and publishing Alone With The Gods was a huge achievement for him and he soon hopes to follow this up with other novels.
