The Sportpalast: Total War (Tom O'Brien: OSS Agent Book 1)

Tom O’Brien finds himself being shuttled across occupied France by the French Resistance. His destination is the heart of Nazi Germany – Berlin, and his fear grows at every step of the perilous journey. As propaganda minister Joseph Goebbels whips Nazi crowds into frenzy with his calls for Total War in response to President Roosevelt’s demand for unconditional surrender at the Casablanca Conference, Tom finds he must rely on the most unlikely allies to accomplish the final leg of the trip. He will be smuggled into Berlin by German intelligence officers working in the German resistance movement against Hitler. Against his better judgment, he forges ahead with the mission to free a young Jewish physicist being forced to work on the German atomic bomb project, but always keeps the cyanide capsule close at hand. As an agent of the newly formed OSS, America’s first intelligence agency, Tom knows the fate that awaits him if he is captured.

The Sportpalast: Total War is a story of intrigue and betrayal in the cauldron of the world war, but it is also the story of one man’s attempt to survive and to see his wife again. When Tom’s wife shows up in a place he never expected to see her, at a place he was supposedly safe, they are both thrown into danger as they find enemies are sometimes allies, and allies are sometimes enemies.

The story breaks with the tradition of portraying World War II as a simplistic, black and white story of good against evil, and tells a far more complex story of conflicted individuals caught in the clash of ideologies that had led the world to disaster.
