A rf More than five years ago while revolving in my mind the scheme of an Association of the Chief families and representatives of the aristocracy and old landed nobility of the Punjab, 1little dreamt of the amount of whole-hearted and active support that it was destined to receive. At the outset I had no idea of the eventualities that have marked its career and the success which its activities have met with. My object in giving an account of this nourishing institution is simply to introduce it to circles in which the aims and objects of the Punjab Chiefs Association are less favoured, because they are misapprehended and to acquaint those who view it with a friendly eye more fully with those aims and objects. It is gratifying to observe that the Association has been favourably commented upon by the press generally with the exception of a few selfish journals which entertain extreme views on matters political and communal. I am not called upon to philosophize on the necessity of an aristocracy in society in the light of recent conceptions of social science or to make au attempt at refuting of those who advocate the destruction of it on the socialistic principle of forking out their penny and pocketing others shillings. Their propaganda is well known, having been taken up in the continental and trans-A tlantic penny press.
