Callie's Paradox

Callie loves her dog Lulah, soccer, star-gazing, her friend Mariette, and her far-from-perfect family. But she is struggling to discover what she believes in. Her parents and her church tell her there are right and wrong answers to everything – all she has to do is believe. Callie knows from being a soccer player that life is more complicated than that: the truth is more often made up of things that contradict each other. When her father tries to have her soccer coach fired Callie stands up for what she knows to be true, and her father punishes her by making her leave the soccer team. When her adorable dog Lulah disappears Callie’s world comes apart. Callie disobeys her father and plays the soccer match of her life for the regional championship. In the end, it’s her often-cruel brother who puts everything else aside to look for Lulah. Callie learns that believing in herself is the one true way to understand her paradoxical universe.
