The Assignment Completion Strategy (Learning Strategies Curriculum)

Homework assignments represent a significant academic demand students since they often receive 10 to 15 assignments a week, especially at the secondary level. additionally, the grades students receive on these assignments comprise a substantial proportion of their course grades. not surprisingly, one of the most frequently cited reasons for referral of a student for special education services is the student's inability to complete assignments. Thus, the Assignment Completion Strategy has been designed to enable students to complete and turn in high-quality assignments on time. This strategy involves the use of several organization, time-management, and self-control skills related to completing assignments. The steps of the strategy involve: (a)using several forms to keep track of assignments and plan when to complete them;(b) recording assignments quickly using abbreviations;(c)dividing long-term and major assignments into parts; (d)estimating the time needed to complete an assignment or its parts;(e) scheduling homework/study sessions;(f) completing each assignment at a high level of quality;(g)turning assignments in on time; and (h) evaluating completed work. Therefore the Assignment Completion Strategy is a complex strategy system comprised of several cognitive strategies and overt behaviors in which students engage over a significant period of time.
