Stolen Heiress
Description
Henry Garrick (Hal to his friends) is a young English wine merchant on a visit to southern France in 1789, to arrange contracts for the purchase of wine from producers, when news reaches them of the fall of the Bastille. It is the beginning of the French Revolution, and the country goes mad. Hal and three companions see smoke rising from a chateau behind a small woodland, and ride through the trees thinking to help. What they see is a mob of peasants attacking the chateau. A young woman is running from the blaze, chased by several men. Hal gallops down the hillside to rescue her followed by the others. It is an encounter which will eventually lead both Hal and Annette, the girl, into deadly danger, in both France and England, as the French Revolution grows progressively more violent.
