The novella, A Winter's Tale, is a beautiful work of true love, written by Anna Austen Lefroy and published in 1841.

Unbeknowst to many, Anna Austen Lefroy was Jane
Austen's favorite niece. Jane Austen was a loving, contructive critic of Anna Austen Lefroy's stories, and she often advised her on how to improve plot and style. As evidenced in Jane Austen's poem Mock Panegyric on a Young Friend.
Jane Austen thought very highly of Anna:
“I'll now rehearse
the charms of lovely Anna:
And, frst,
her mind is unconfned
Like any vast savannah.”

Without a doubt, both aunt and niece shared a special bond, even when Anna married a Benjamin Lefroy, cousin to Jane Austen's one tryst with love.
