Originally published for your delight on the "DÃa de los muertos" (Day of the Dead, Nov. 1), these six brief stories started as urban or folk legends in Mexico and have now become part of the folklore of several Hispanic countries, especially "La Llorona" (The Weeping Woman).
The stories are suitable for all ages, from little ones to adults — although parents and teachers might want to skip a couple of the scariest to avoid frightening the youngest tykes.

2. El fantasma de la terminal del tren — The ghost at the train station
3. Ãrboles carnÃvoros — Carnivorous trees
--El árbol Yateveo — The “Now I see you†tree
--El árbol carnÃvoro de Madagascar — The carnivorous Madagascar tree
4. La calle del Puente del Clérigo — Clergyman’s Bridge Street
5. Las campanas de la BasÃlica — The bells of the Basilica
6. La Llorona — The Weeping Woman (six different versions through the ages)
The last tale is probably the best-known one of the six, but you may not have heard the version that goes back to the Aztec gods...
