Ted Bundy was intelligent, handsome and articulate; he was also multiple-murderer, rapist, kidnapper, and necrophile. In a five-year period during the 1970’s, and covering five states, he kidnapped, assaulted, raped and murdered as many as thirty five women, possibly more.

For Bundy, sexual gratification involved attractive women terrorised to the point that they believed they were about to die.

To get his victims, Bundy used charm and sincerity, traits he exploited to win the trust of his victims. He usually approached them in public places, feigning an injury, or impersonating an authority figure. He would then lure them away to a more secluded location before overpowering them.

Arrested in 1975, he made two dramatic escapes and committed three more murders, before his recapture in Florida in 1978.

He received three death sentences in two separate trials and died in the electric chair at Florida State’s Raiford Penitentiary, on 24 January 1989. A crowd of five hundred waited outside for his death, chanting, “Burn Bundy Burn.” When his death was formally announced at 7:16am, they cheered, sounded car horns and left off fireworks to celebrate.
