Description
Can Do and the Storm: A Story About New Beginnings was written to help young children cope with the effects of a hurricane or other storm. It was written by a child psychiatrist and his wife, a child psychologist who specializes in helping children deal with traumatic events. The illustrations were done by their young daughters. Please note that all royalties, which is $.35 per book, will be donated to help the hurricane Sandy relief efforts. This is an updated color electronic version of the original black and white print book which is still available for free as a PDF on the website, www.thecandoduck.com.
Can Do and the Storm was originally inspired by the courageous spirit of those affected by hurricane Katrina. It was distributed for free to 30,000 children and families in Mississippi by a program that provided free crisis counseling services and was funded through a grant from FEMA and facilitated by the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration.
Can Do and the Storm has a hopeful, positive message and tells the story of ducks and birds and other pond animals who face a hurricane. The book has been written about in newspapers and has been discussed on the radio. We hope that it some small way it helps children cope better after a hurricane.
