The 39 Steps (The Thirty-Nine Steps) - Illustrated

Many speak of John Buchan's 'The Thirty-Nine Steps' as the most thrilling spy story ever written.
Richard Hannay, who has left behind his life as a successful mining-engineer in Rhodesia is becoming increasingly bored with his new life in London.
This changes from one day to the other, when his neighbour Franklin Scudder tells him a secret and is murdered shortly thereafter.
Hannay is now the only keeper of the secret and begins to realise the importance of the knowledge he carries. Europe is on the verge of World War I and it is down to him to avoid it's outbreak.

Alfred Hitchcock's movie 'The 39 Steps' from 1935 is based on John Buchan's narrative.

The text has been formatted for optimal reader's comfort and the wonderful pen-and-ink illustrations by London-based artist, illustrator and printmaker Nils Middelstorb set the mood for an unforgettable read.
