The Gate

A mother returns home from work to find the gate in her picket fence open.

Immediately she panics, reminded of the last time she came home to an open gate - the day her husband was murdered by his former partner.

Closed, the gate guards the pathway to paradise. Open, it becomes an omen; a harbinger of death; a reminder of the horrors she has already survived. But now, instead of her husband, it is her children at risk.
