Love Has No Alibi

"She looked pretty as seventeen dollars’ worth of lettuce, and didn’t appear to mind my attempts to spoil her lipstick."

Dana Warren’s husband is categorically opposed to his beautiful wife marrying another man. The man in question is named Kirk Douglas, and his bad luck with love is balanced with good luck with money. His good luck is worth a hundred-thousand dollars, in fact, which a stranger has deposited into his bank account. Lady Luck’s scales tip again, however, as the body of a murdered woman is found in Kirk’s apartment. Although the police are of little help, Lieutenant Max Gold takes up the case, a very lucky break for the amorously hapless Mr. Douglas.
Mix the beautiful love interest with her husband, a dance troupe, a wealthy playgirl, and a number of corpses, and you’ve got what the New York Times calls a novel of breezy excitement.
