SQUAWK the Magazine of the Naked City Coffeehouse. Issue 56. September 1995. (Squawk Magazine)

Description

The Naked City Coffee House grew out of Naked City magazine (which for a time had offices at 107 Brighton Avenue, The Allston Mall: an experimental arts community) published by Al Nidle who later founded the Zeitgeist Gallery in Cambridge, Massachusetts. The Naked City Coffee House was a weekly open mic forum for singer/song writers and poets. Squawk Magazines, editors and publishers were Lee Kidd, Jessa Piaia and Mick Cusimano. Outrageous and somewhat underground, these editors who were the beats of the 80's and 90's in the Boston, Cambridge area published quite an interesting little mag. This issue features poetry by: R. U. Outavit (Mick Cusimano), Dagger Rathbone, Mark Storey, John O'Donnell, Kim Tallbear, Ana Christy, Mark Senkus, Kasara, Lyn Lifshin, Ben Passikoff, Richard Cambridge, Gary Hicks, Lee Kidd, Mark Peterson, Estra Berosini, Donna McCollem. Cartoons by Seth Feinberg and Ace Backwards. Eyewitness Glimpse/Interviews with David Amram, Tuli Kupferberg, George Plimpton, recording artist Bill Miller. Eyewitness Glimpse of Ann Charters, Norman Mailer. Stark Raving Productions tour update by Amanda Stark and Chris Chandler. Illustrations by Mick Cusimano. Photos of performers at the Naked City Coffeehouse: Patricia Smith, Brian Comiskey, David Amran, Dagger Rathbone, Gary Hicks, Lee Kidd, Jessa Piaia, Harmonica Tom, Richard Cambridge, Billy Barnum, Brother Blue, Hans Meyer, Bill Miller, Johanna Hurley, Mick Cusimano, Diana Rootnik.
