Description
Our old half-timbered house is heated by two wood stoves. Strategically located in the kitchen and the living room.
The consumption of firewood is large. This winter as well, despite relatively mild temperatures in November, December and the beginning of January. High humidity, caused by fog and rain, has necessitated the use of both stoves from early morning to late evening. Condensation is actually more harmful to the house and its people than freezing temperatures.
Cover photo shows the first preparations for this summer's woodpiles. Past practice has been to stack on pallets. However, these pallets are no longer safe. So in consultation with knowledgeable people in Gedser it has been decided to use stones instead of new pallets. Besides protecting logs against fungus from direct contact with the soil, the layer of stones also works as drainage.
____
