Tokyo moves fast. The city has this special energy that make every idea, fashion, or electronic gizmo quickly obsolete.
Even for those who live in big cities, Tokyo can be intimidating at first.
Tokyo s image is a harsh concrete jungle, an urban maze of buildings pushing for space with a dense population, an ultra-modern city of skyscrapers, cutting-edge fashion and design and high technology. However, under this hard exterior shell lies a city with beautiful gardens, old streets where part of traditional Japan is alive.
The hyper urban megacity has not forgotten customs from the past like going to public baths, honoring the imperial family, or praying in Shinto temples. The unbroken continuity of tradition and modernity is not apparent at first. It takes some time to explore what a city so rich and diverse is made of.
The obsession for the newest curiously lives in harmony with tradition. The Japanese non-conformism explodes into cutting-edge art, music and inventions, but at the same time the society is respectful and disciplined to the extreme.
The mix is amazing. The sceneries are stunning.
