Before VERSUS BOOKS was founded by ex-GameFan editor Matt Taylor and a group of 18-something year old hard-core gamers had already published an amazing number of high quality game guides for other imprints like GamePro, Game Fan and Prima. These pre-Versus Books game guides are the rare early incunabula of a the great Versus Books line of Video Game Guides to come in 1996. As in the famed VERSUS PERFECT GUIDES, these early Guide Books had the games completely documented with great artwork, detailed maps and walk throughs, and astonishing insights in details on characters and resources, and often a great boss strategies. They were written by hard-core gamers for hard-core gamers, nothing less. They brought a hardcore, underground attitude, and focused on making guides that went above-and-beyond the call of duty.
