It was late 1999 and the whole world was waiting for the Y2K bug to screw everything up. Except, maybe, for Mike Edington. He was an uncomplicated man who didn’t worry too much about the stuff he couldn’t control. He’d left the military in the mid 1970’s after 12 years service and a very short, disastrous marriage. Now a confirmed bachelor he’d spent the last 22 years quietly, and successfully, building up his little property empire. He was fast approaching his fiftieth birthday and his thoughts should have been turning towards relaxing a little and enjoying the fruits of his labours, but an unexpected phone call from an old mentor was to turn his life upside down. He found himself inheriting, among other things, the top job at the head of a shadowy group of individuals who, motivated only by a sense of fair play, had taken it upon themselves to bring some much needed accountability to the increasingly corrupt political and social elite. The group had set its sights on a particularly sleazy member of the European hierarchy, but it wasn’t until they had him safely under lock and key that they found out he was the keeper of a very dangerous secret. Deadly enough to put Mike’s entire organisation at risk when the Security Services on both sides of the Atlantic were mobilised to make sure that it never saw the light of day. Mike would need to call on skills he’d long since confined to the dusty attic of his mind as he battled to save himself and his compatriots from the tainted forces of law and order.
