After drastic climate changes and volcanic events, life in the U.S. had changed dramatically in the 21st century. The Martin family, living in crowded southern California, wondered how the rest of the U.S. had changed and if there were a better life for them somewhere else. So the long trek back toward their ancestral home in Michigan began.
