Description

Introduction
This is a research proposal with the purpose of analytically exploring the characteristics, qualities and shared values of persons who have had several episodes of behavior treatment for substance use disorder, where one or more of these episodes were preceded by or ran concurrently with pharmacological therapy, as is the case with many other Axis I brain disorders.  All too often, this is given little if any consideration in many substance use treatment episodes.
We even have an inexpensive antagonist called Naloxone, designed to save lives so the sufferer can continue living thereby getting a chance to consider treatment. The government turns a closed eye rather than let people live.
Dr. Sarz Maxwell,ASAM, Addictions Specialist, Psychiatrist and educator, said to me recently, “President Bush’s Secretary of the Food and Drug Administration was asked when she thinks that Naloxone will be available to all heroin users in the U.S. since it has saved so many lives, instantly, from accidental overdoses.  She replied that she didn’t believe in Naloxone.  I didn’t know that Naloxone was a belief system, Mr. Redfield.  Did you?”
The central question I would be keen on answering as a result of this process is: Are evaluation, analysis, diagnosis and possibly pharmaceutical treatment of a SUD clients, (including prescriptions to prevent or reduce withdrawal symptoms and antagonist overdose preventor) administered before or concurrent with behavior therapy(ies), more likely to ensure a more qualitative prognosis for that client?
