Exodus (The Dead Planet Series Book 1)
Description
The Dead Planet Series is a post-apocalyptic series set in the distant future. Society is at its worst, but can it be redeemed?
For twenty five hundred years the civilization on Mars has been ruled by the Syndicate, an organization run by the top one percent. Freedoms are suppressed and religion is banned. The only truth is what The Syndicate tells you. Every need and desire of the average citizen has been fed by the machine in return for a lifetime of obedience. What happens when the profit margins fall and the people become a burden to the pockets of the Syndicate? What happens when their plans to exile their citizens to a certain death is revealed? This is the story of a man named Serus Blackwell who has a job to do. Serus is a policeman who works for the Agency, but it isn’t what you think. Can he protect his sister, Kara, before the Agency kills her, or will the programming he received from the Agency override his emotions and condemn Kara to the same fate as the rest of the planet?

Questions with the author
Why did you want to become a writer?
I grew up reading comic books and hated novels. I felt they took too long to read and didn't stimulate my imagination the way comics did. I got into comic books because I loved Batman The Animated Series and the X-Men cartoon from the 1990's. When I was sixteen I found a book by Peter David called "The Incredible Hulk: What Savage Beast" and that changed everything. It was the first book I bought, paid for with lunch money I squandered.
What is it about science fiction that appeals to you?
There is a certain type of story that can only be seen through the filter of science fiction. The characters can all be the same as the literary counterparts, certain elements in the plot can carry over, but in science fiction there is an underlying thread to the story that appeals to me. It doesn't matter if it's a space adventure like Star Trek, or a dystopian series like the Hunger Games, the thread I recognize is like a heart beat. It makes the story more alive and interesting. That's something I hope I can create with my own stories. I want people to see the thread woven into it as if it were its own character.
What is on your kindle right now?
I've got a lot of stuff on my kindle actually. I've recently downloaded some Batman comic books which is weird to read on a tablet, but it's cool because it's always in mint condition lol. I also have the Silo Saga by Hugh Howey, The Beam by Sean Platt and Johnny B Truant, and some nonfiction book marketing books by Joanna Penn and Nick Stephenson.
If you could recommend any book, other than your own, which would it be?
Man, my favorite book changes a lot since there's so much cool stuff out there. I think today I would suggest Enders Game by Orson Scott Card. The book is pretty good, I still need to see the movie, though. I've been slacking lol.
