South Carolina is a state blessed with a dazzling array of National Historic Register landmarks. Yet, as writer and photographer Bill Fitzpatrick found out when he attempted to visit a few such places, there is no easy way to travel to and then enjoy South Carolina's historical assets. Sure, there is plenty of information on many different websites, but none of it organized to allow a visitor, local tourist, or history buff to know "what's nearby," "how" to get there," and then "what it is" upon arrival.

In this groundbreaking and innovative eBook, Bill has solved these problems, made it possible to travel to and then enjoy terrific landmarks.

South Carolina’s Magnificent National Historic Register Landmarks: The Coast, contains separate listing for each of the area’s 400+ plus landmarks. If the landmark is accessible (and some aren’t), Bill, an award winning photographer, provides a current image of the landmark, along with appropriate site-specific information. In addition, Bill includes the one paragraph summary description as provided by the South Carolina Archives and History website.

The strength of the eBook, however, is in its navigational tools. When Bill visited each Historic Register landmark, he captured its accompanying GPS coordinates. He then compiled a master file that can be uploaded to a Garmin or Garmin-like device. Anyone traveling with the device will then know what Historic Register landmark is near, and be one-touch away from accurate directions. Bill’s eBook can then be consulted to see if it is a worthwhile journey, or not. Once there, the summary detail from the South Carolina Archives and History website provides appropriate educational information.

For those who might have an iPad or iPad-like device with cell service enabled, Bill has included a hyperlink to Google Maps for each Historic Register landmark. This link, when combined with the Google Maps app, allows for “one-touch” routing to any of the Upstate’s landmark, without the need for a Garmin device.
