Betrothal—Edo Native Law and Custom Marriage (Ugie Oronmwen Edo) depicts the cultural marriage ceremony of an Ancient and Modern Edo kingdom in Nigeria, West Africa.
The father of the bride or groom extends his Right as a privilege to a deserving son or daughter, based on his or her good upbringing. This is synonymous with the father-of the-bride giving his daughter away at an English wedding. It also speaks well for the groom; otherwise, it makes people wonder what kind of head-of-household he will be.
A female or male child cannot take it for granted that it is an entitlement for the parents to show support, let alone stand behind him or her as a pillar of support during this UNIQUE traditional ceremony. The non-support of a father gives away the flaws of the bride-, or groom-to-be.
