In the Morning Light: Tales of love, loss and hope.

This collection of stories is inspired largely by time spent in the Middle East. It is made of the dreams of new brides, the love in older marriage, as well as the sadness, loss and hope in everyday life. The feelings are raw, the love is tender, and the stories are sprinkled with hope from the teachings of Islam; after hardship there is ease; if anyone puts their patience in God, he will suffice them.

Safiya is stuck in a lifeless marriage. Newly married to Hilel, she feels alone and dreams of something more. An older man lends relief to Safiya's sorrow for a time.

Aa'idah is an elderly woman who feels disconnected from her husband. They part for a time and when they finally reconnect it is too late to continue the life they dream of together.

Asif is a young man from a poor family in Pakistan. When his boss gives him the opportunity to go abroad for work, his mother is beside herself with sadness, but it is exactly what Asif needs.

Asra is Amr's second wife, his first wife, the elderly Mayyada, now painfully ill. Asra is particularly unhappy, and Amr feels guilty about his marriage to Asra and the way it effects Mayyada, even though it was Mayyada's idea.

Solange is alone at the end of her marriage. Storms swirl in the garden as in her mind. She tries to get on with life, to forget Gibrail, but she cannot let go of her memories. She lives tormented by the man she has lost, now gone.

Noor and Malik have the ideal marriage. They respect each other, she looks after him and he looks after her. But when Malik travels to a neighbouring country just as war is breaking out, their union is severed.

Abia is married to Hussein but she is sleeping with Abas, a young man from their village. Abia knows they cannot play with fire for long, but Abas wants Abia to run away with him, to have his life with her. Hussein's kindness makes it harder for Abia to make her final decision.
