Description
Does you alcoholic husband want help? No he doesn’t.
He wants to drink as much as he wants whenever he wants without interference.
This was my husband’s way of thinking also and it slowly killed him.
Those of us who live with an alcoholic can see them destroying themselves and feel helpless to stop it. We are not equipped to deal with the distorted views of the alcoholic.
To try and prevent what happened to me I researched how others had stopped drinking and become well. If we help the alcoholic to become well we are turn helping the family.
Find out why they keep drinking. Why they don’t stay stopped after a period of not drinking? Excellent books are discussed which offer personal health plans with a high success rate. Many websites are listed which offer help with an honest straight forward approach. All we can do is offer help at the best possible moment.
Living with an alcoholic is difficult and soul destroying and you will recognize yourself in the book and realize you are not alone.
The damage done to the brain and body by the alcohol must be repaired. If in sober times the drinker is able to see that others have become well without struggling to stay sober each day, he will be encouraged. It will not happen overnight but the seed will have been sewn. The alcoholic must want to help himself and all we can do is offer alternative solutions that have a good success rate.
Alcoholics are individuals just like the rest of us and one type of treatment can never fit all. It must be tailored to the individual. Decide which proven options maybe the best for the alcoholic in your life. No need to even leave the house.
No alcoholic ever wants or thinks they need ‘treatment.’ They don’t want our help because they see no reason to change a life they are happy with.
All we can do is offer assistance. It is up to them whether to take advantage of it or not. Then we can say we have done the best we could to help them with the knowledge available today.
