Wolverton Road

As it turns north and south along the Red River, U.S. Highway 75 in winter is a snow- and ice-covered road marked only by open fields and leafless trees beneath a powder-blue sky. Wolverton Road is a collection of 54 poems, all cinquains, written in response to that landscape during the sixty-minute commute between the cities of Moorhead and Breckenridge in Minnesota during the months of January, February, and March. These poems set out to prove that while the way may be bleak, U.S. Highway 75 along the Red River has its own place in poetry.
