Description
This traditional Russian fairy tale was originally translated by Alisa Melekhina when she was six years old, after listening to the story from her grandmother. The unique perspective of a young author adds to the lessons of acceptance; perseverance; and resourcefulness, typical of Russian folklore.
A young prince finds himself beholden to a frog who catches an arrow destined for his future wife. What is he to do? He takes the frog home to his palace, where she must pass the sewing and cooking tests. The prince eventually falls in love, but after a regrettable mistake must embark on a journey to fix the frog's curse.
About the Author:
Alisa Melekhina is a native of Ukraine, immigrating to the United States when she was one month old in 1991. She began to learn both ballet and chess at age 6, and has achieved the master level in chess. Alisa also took up drawing, and illustrated the cover painting. She has represented the US team in various international chess competitions, and was the youngest participant in the US Women's Chess Championships. After graduating undergrad at 19 with a degree in philosophy, she is now a student at the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
Note about the second edition: The story was originally published in 2000, two years after it was written. The current edition has been updated for electronic distribution. Several grammatical errors, redundancies, and incorrectly used idioms have been fixed, while preserving the voice of the six-year-old author.
