Mata Hari bequeaths her worldly possessions, a trunk with her prized clothes and possessions to the poor orphaned girl, and encourages her to escape the monastic life and set out into the world so the young girl can live her life the way she would like to live it.

Mata Hari also reflects on the state of a world at war ... and the misfortunes of those, such as herself, who are caught in the conflict.
