3rd Annual Miniaturisation Event - Micro Scale Bioprocess Development (Euroscicon Meeting Reports)

Miniaturisation is the small-scale cultivation of biological cells. Miniature bioreactors are used for the purposes of screening for positive clones, optimisation of culture conditions, formulation and bioprocess development. Miniaturisation and automation enable high throughput parallel process optimisation and development at low costs and development time. The Annual Miniaturisation Event has seen many successes in the development of the technologies that have found their ways into various industrial applications. The two main bioreactor designs featured in the 2012 meeting were the microwell plates and the miniature stirred bioreactor. The bioreactors were presented with many advanced features and variations, and were showcased in the meeting for applications in microbial, mammalian and stem cell cultivations, and in tissue engineering.
