Chance also meets an outcast kid. He his half African and half American but he is brown, not black. He is scorned in this country. He is a toss kid, the product of a passing fling. He lives in a tree just outside of the hotel and is a professional scammer. He uses that skill to stay alive and the tree to stay away from a hotel cook who raped him.
This teen will also steal some of Chance’s heart and provide Chance with some “eyes†into what's going on with the now reclusive Erickson.
Erickson never lets up on Chance and the cockpit tension ends in a landing accident in Liberia. The plane is damaged and can no longer complete the mission and must be patched up enough to fly home for other repairs.
An ex-patriot airline mechanic living in Liberia offers to help and Erickson hires him. The mechanic approaches Erickson with a deal he can’t refuse. Erikson agrees to smuggle a box into the United States in return for $50,000.
That’s an offer Erickson can’t pass up. He thinks the box contains diamonds and gold, but it may contain something else. The smuggler has become a terrorist.
A CIA operative gets information the box contains an armed suitcase nuclear bomb, but it is too late to stop the plane. Erickson and Chance are in the air and on their way.
The only way to stop this disaster is to get Chance to do something about that nuke and finally face Erickson. But will he? How much does he really want to fly?
