Description
In his new book, Prince Charming, Jonathan offers vivid, masterful descriptions and colorful insights into the continuing saga of the two generations introduced in his first two books. The innocence of young love contrasts sharply with scenes of vindictive treachery, as this amazing story unfolds. One cannot help but be intrigued by the young folks as they strive to work out the usual pangs of romance, dismally thwarted by Constance, who constantly strives to manipulate her world and everyone in it. The plot cleverly navigates some incredible twists and turns as the characters attempt to build their own lives with only a limited awareness of Constance’s determination to control every possible outcome. Ultimately, as Constance manages to conquer her own demons, her daughter, Elizabeth, comes to realize a critical truth of her own. Once again, Eloff has cleverly created a page turner with some unexpected and often surprising results. Jonathan won major concessions for these 2nd editions— permission to include some private details of this real life love story. When you understand his relationship to characters within his novels, you’ll know that was tricky, but the poignant Christmas Eve scene between Elizabeth and Nicholas is so important for this story’s future, that some of the book’s characters agreed to shed the comfortably safe veneers of “youthful innocence†they’d earlier enjoyed in his novels. In this book, you’ll be privy to quite an unusual Christmas Eve, and you’ll no doubt smile as you realize how cleverly Elizabeth turned a playful fantasy into a powerful real life truth encounter—one that Nicholas never even saw coming, but which had him finally reveal to her, his true feelings, and hers to him, in relative safety. The problem was, it was to be their last summer romance for at least two years, and if Constance and Charles had their way—their last summer romance ever! How do they deal with that new reality, especially with their lives spinning out of their control, subject to wishes of parents and demands of governments? Perhaps by daring to dream wonderful dreams anyway? They innocently believe that “when you wish upon a star, makes no difference who you are, anything your heart desires will come to you!†Just maybe it really pays to dream—even impossible dreams? As usual, Constance takes sadistic delight in dashing any hopes that these two young sweethearts will ever see each other again--but then just as she basks in her cruel victory, Elizabeth hands her a tactical setback, and a tiny measure of hope is restored to Nicholas and Lizzie. This book sees the rise to prominence of Charles, the spoiled son of a rich industrialist. He goes to private boarding schools in England with the royal family and other well-connected members of British society, and flies home from London to Cape Town several times each year for school holidays. Using his father's wealth, chauffeur-driven Mercedes, luxury penthouse condominiums in Sea Point, private tables at all the finest restaurants, he woos Elizabeth--though he is more successful at winning her mother’s approval. Nicholas, the son of a Dr. also grew up in a boarding school. He is not spoiled and cannot compete with Charles's extravagances, but he has something much more valuable! After three Idyllic summer romances with Elizabeth, in the spectacular Wilderness national park, he is deeply ensconced in a well-guarded corner of Lizzie's heart! But a major problem looms for him. He is drafted into the air force to participate in the on-going war-effort against terrorist fighters trying to infiltrate South Africa from their bases in neighboring countries. He will be gone for almost two years, out of Lizzie's life. Charles, being a British subject, has no such obligations. He is free to woo Elizabeth in Nicholas's absence, at a crucial time in Lizzie's life--grade 12 AND her freshman year at the University of Cape Town. The deck is stacked against Nicholas!
