The aim of the writer was to bring together much of the theoretical and practical knowledge of horologists from around the world by translating a number of treatises on the art of clock and watch making and repair from the United States of America, Great Britain, France and Switzerland. The work of preparing this comprehensive mechanical manual was completed by Mary L. Booth in 1863.
