Kodansha's Furigana Japanese-English Dictionary is different from its predecessor and other similar dictionaries in that it reflects the latest rationale and methodology for teaching Japanese in the United States, Europe and Australia. This was published for the use of non-native learners already familiar with the hiragana and katakana scripts. To this end, small kana (called furigana or rubi) have been printed above every kanji appearing in this book, making it possible for the beginner, who has learned kana, to read even the most difficult and obscure kanji at a glance.
