Small Talk is a collection of poetry, prose, and short stories which represents decades of creative writing. Though not completely unique, the composition of this particular form of art was manifest to be inclusive of a broader range of lovers of the written word, with a more sociable level of dialect, comprehension, pleasure, and appeal - Inclusive of, but not restricted to - a Christian perspective.
My goal as a writer is to reach as many people as possible with a foray of inspirational words crafted to tell a story, often through the use of lyrics, with a meaning. A meaning which is based on society, on the one hand. While on the other hand intended as an introspective of oneself or one other, using an appeal that such introspection can belong to anyone.
That said, among the contents of Small Talk you will also find poems intended as dedications. Some sent and received by people of prominence and provenance, all clearly marked as such.... But there again, they are dedications which can belong to anyone.
As Small Talk is a body of work that has spanned decades, you will also find works which nuanced current social events dated from 1989 to 2010, (I have been on holiday), either implied or direct.
Novice poets tend to take their skill to dark places. My work is designed to be uplifting, yet is not entirely without darkness, but only where intended to shed some light. These works are primarily directed at society. I am very opinionated, and there are some things which simply must be said.
Perhaps there are also some things which you also feel must be said...
After reading Small Talk I am sure you will come to appreciate the artwork embedded in such a way as to prompt you, after much contemplation, to embark on that similar journey through written word and emotion that you have postponed for ages.
The majority of you, however are sure to enjoy the pleasantry, imagery, and light enjoyable reading. All will appreciate the craftiness, and thoughtfulness. I am certain that Small Talk shall invoke emotions of joy, with laughter – and of course, accompanied by the “amen corner†when befitting certain subject matter.
Lastly, with regards to the title, the picture of me adorning the cover was taken at the Small Talk cafe in Amsterdam, Nederlands. But more importantly the title is meant to inform you of the contents. Many revered poets have become so in an elaborate artistic manner. A manner which I feel leaves many non-intricate connoisseurs out of touch with their presentation.
My goal was to accomplish the same level of achievement using a more common dialect, thus the title “Small Talkâ€.
