INTERMITTENT FASTING
Those few people who need to utilize
intermittent fasting and do so in a safe well
thought out manner can reap many benefits
from utilizing this eating pattern. On the other
hand, those who do not need to utilize this
pattern of eating, or are simply using it as a
way to deprive themselves from calories over
an extended period of time, can possibly being
doing more harm then good to their bodies.
Intermittent fasting does not equal starvation diet.
This book is not what you think it might be.
I am not an advocate of intermittent fasting nor
am I against it. I just wanted to bring a different
point of view on the subject that seems to have
many people believing that this type of eating pattern
is somehow something magical which it is not.
Here are some excerpts from the book itself
to finish off the description so you can get a little
peak at the content inside.
IFer’s infatuation with coffee & stimulants
Like the paleo dieters intermittent faster’s tend
to be big caffeine and stimulant consumers. This may
have to do with the fact that a lot of them will carb
restrict as well. The brain runs solely on glucose and oxygen.
The human body was made to run on carbohydrates, this
is a scientific fact. Restricting or completely eliminating
carbohydrates from your diet just forces your body to turn
stored fat into glucose for fuel.
If you eliminate fat as well then you will just be forcing the
body to once again convert what is left which would be
protein (muscle) into glucose, which is a more dangerous
process then having your body convert fat into glucose.
If you eliminate all three and don’t consume any alcohol (calories)
then the body will have to just die off.
There are people that may wonder how they can see
drunken hobo’s in their streets who basically live off of
alcohol and maybe get a hot dog every now and then
at the 7/11 still alive! Day after day, some even for years
doing the same thing every day which is getting drunk out of their minds.
They will eventually die, but the alcohol they are
consuming is also keeping them alive for the time being.
Alcohol will turn into glucose in the body which is our
primary and most needed source of fuel. Alcohol will
also dehydrate you and disrupts and suppresses the
body’s natural process of protein synthesis. Myopathy
is also a common condition found in alcoholics, but this
is somewhat off subject and for another book and time.
Those who consume caffeine or other stimulants on a
daily basis are wreaking havoc onto their adrenal glands.
All across the world millions of people are waking up,
rolling out of bed and the very first thing that they
do is have a cup of coffee.
Many people have alarms set on their coffee makers
so that their coffee starts and is finished brewing by the
time that they are getting up for work or school or
whatever their daily activity may be.
Intermittent faster’s may find themselves in lethargic
states of mind and feeling sluggish and weak if not
practicing IF correctly. These people will need to turn
to stimulants to get their brains kick started. Many people
do not know the importance of the adrenal glands, and
what role they actually play in our bodies.
