This is the exciting tale of a girl named Anne, a willful, young redhead who is fiercely loyal to the king and finds herself torn between competing factions as well as would-be-lovers. It begins in 1777 in Maryland, a place in transition.

Much of the story takes place in Annapolis, where her father was an advisor to the last colonial governor; in British-occupied Philadelphia, where she flirts with John André, and on the Eastern Shore where she struggles to cope and mature after her father’s death. The author insists that this is a romance, but a great deal of conflict and some violence happen before love wins out as it must in all true romances.
