Description

The Unfortunate Chronicles of Little Bolkonsky, USA: a science fiction biography by Julio A. Alvarez introduces our reading audience to Army Major Little Bolkonsky. His life has been a series of ups and downs beginning with his mother, Katia Bolkonsky, who suffered from Bipolar Disorder and Obsessive Compulsive Disorder among other ailments. She named him Little, naturally making him a target for bullies, would be school terrorists, and incoherent military cadets. Worse yet, Bolkonsky harbors a secret affecting his actions. He is different. Miraculously, he survives high school, his eccentric mother, four years at the Citadel academy, and harsh assignments. Then he gets reassigned to an enigmatic Army post known as Saint Jorge, located on an island located off the coast of Florida and founded by President George Washington 300 years before, a place so Top Secret that not even the President knows of its existence even if he had been briefed on it. Soon our protagonist is dragged into a trial for his past offenses and is given a choice of what seems to him, bewildering sentences. Military court officers Colonel Erwin Nikolay and Lieutenant-General Pavolov are anxious to pass judgment on Bolkonsky. Yet, Bolkonsky redeems himself to these prosecutors through the machinations of unlikely fate which has other plans for the good Major to include a sudden Martian voyage where he'll finally discover his secret identity that will change his life forever and turn him into a hero. Freemason General George Washington would have probably approved of such an elegant disciplinary action.
