In Memoirs of An R&B Housewife, we are introduced to Derrick and Alaina.

On the outside Alaina Williams looks like your average seventeen year old, but on the inside, she is a very troubled girl. She seeks an escape from her abusive mother and takes a full academic scholarship to a university clear across the country. That was until the one day her twin sister bursts in her room to tell her about their new neighbors.

That was the day Derrick entered her life and turned it upside down. He comes off as a smooth, laid back guy who has his head on straight. Derrick aspires of making it big in the music business with his brother and their two friends. But all that glitters isn't gold and Alaina finds out that Derrick isn't all he's cracked up to be.
