From Robben Island to Bishopscourt

This is the biography of Archbishop Njongonkulu Ndungane, who in his earlier years preceded Nelson Mandela to Robben Island and there helped build the cell which would later house Madiba. Taking over the reigns of the Anglican Church he succeeded Archbishop Emeritus Desmond Tutu to Bishopscourt, and continued to implement positive change.

In these times when role models are scarce and leaders are often found lacking in their principles, Ndungane’s humility and mission of compassion, serve as a cause for joyous celebration. From humble beginnings, his unwavering faith, even when, sorely tested, and his passion for life, have become a beacon for many, especially those who find themselves on the receiving end of racism, bigotry, and discrimination. His ministry will be remembered for championing the cause of the poorest of the poor and ostracized, the equal role of women in society and the rights of HIV positive individuals.
