Description

I was born in 1939 in Jehlum which is now in Pakistan. After partition, our family shifted to India after going through several trials and tribulations or partition, which I still remember. Before partition, I was studying in a village primary school and after partition I completed my education with PhD in Mathematics from IIT Roorkee. During my service, I served at several places and visited England, Europe and Middle East on educational assignments.

I retired from Roorkee University (now IIT Roorkee) as Prof. in Mathematics in June 2000 after serving the university for over 35 years. After serving some private engineering institutes in Noida, I have been associated with Ambala College of Engineering and Applied Research as professor in Computer science since 2004. Shortly after joining this institute, I fell sick and was hospitalized for several days.

One day my son-in-law Mr. Vikas, while attending to me in my room casually asked whether I remembered my early childhood and pre-partition days. That set me thinking. Even though I was confined to bed, yet I was mentally alert. Therefore why not utilize this opportunity to write down some eventful incidents in my life which might be of some interest to others.

The same are now being presented in the pages that follow. The book is essentially a chronological description of the events and people of twentieth century as they impacted the author. It gives the reader a partial glimpse of the Indian panorama (particularly of its north western part in the twentieth century in the period before independence).

While writing these pages, I have tried to be as impersonal and impartial as possible. However, whenever someone writes about oneself it is not possible to be totally impersonal. In case my writing hurts the sentiments and feelings of someone, it is totally unintended and the author begs to be excused for the same.
