This Book is evidenced based from authentic sources of the Quran and Sunah of the Prophet (SAW) and the work of some Muslim scholars. Accordingly, the primary sources used are: Tafsir Ibn Kathir and Kutub Sitta (six books of Sunah), namely: (i) Sahih Bukhari; (ii) Sahih Muslim; (iii) Sunan Abu Dawud; (iv) Jami At-Tirmidhi; (v) Sunan Nas’i and (vi) Sunan Ibn Majah.
This book consists of ten (10) Chapters. Chapter 1 consists of: Introduction. Chapter 2 consists of: Islamic management ethics explained and include: what is ethics; what is Islamic ethics; importance of ethics in Islam; understanding Tawheed is the prerequisite; morality: the core of all Islamic principles; and managerial ethics in Islamic context, which covers: general aspects, concept of faith (Tawheed) in managerial context, concept of right (Khair) in managerial context, and concept of wrong (Sharr) in managerial context. Chapter 3 consists of: Business ethics in Islamic framework and includes: what is business ethics; importance of Islamic business ethics; freedom of enterprise; role of Hisbah in controlling unethical business; directions for trade transactions; and concluding remarks. Chapter 4 consists of understanding of Shari’ah; Fiqh (Islamic Jurisprudence) explained; family relations under Shari’ah; administrative system of Shari’ah; and the characteristics of an Islamic society. Chapter 5 consists of: Understanding of the principles of Shura; election of Amir; establishment of Majlis Shura (consultative council); characteristics of Shura.
Chapter 6 consist of: Understanding of rule of law and includes: concept of legislation in an Islamic State; the administration of the judiciary; family relations under Shari’ah and covers: marriage relationship, polygamy, the unlawful forms of marriage, dower (mahr), and divorce in Shariah (Talaq); Crimeinal law and punishment under Shari’ah and covers:crime and punishment, homicide (Qatl) and law of equality (Qasas), al-Zina (adultery and fornification) and sodomy (homosexuality), defamation (al-Qadhf), highway robery (al-Hirabah), conspiracy and treason, the theft (al-Sariqa), an intoxicant (Khmar), Maysir (gambling), apostasy (al-Riddah), and running away from the battlefield in Jihad; accountability of rulers; and concluding remarks. Chapter 7 consists of: Islamic value-based business ethical system and includes: introduction; directions for trade transaction; legitimate (Halal) earnings; unacceptable business practices; and concluding remarks. Chapter 8 consists of: Islamic ethics in the business organizations and includes: introduction; and need for an Islamic model of business and covers: Islamic business framework, components of Islamic business model, and Islamic guidance to operation of organizations. Chapter 9 consists of: Key characteristics and behaviour of an ethical Muslim manager and includes: introduction; humility and superior communication; responsibility; accountability; and concluding remarks.
