Description
Cold-formed steel (CFS) construction has gained in popularity and many tools have been developed and enhanced over the years to assist the designer including design guides, code provisions, specifications, standards and, of course, computer software. This presentation briefly discusses CFS codes, standards and design guides as well as CFS connections including weld, bolt, and screw connections. The majority of this presentation is an exploration of CFS framed diaphragms, shear walls, and diagonal strap braced wall lateral load resisting systems which are addressed by the AISI Lateral Design Standard (S213). Finally, a CFS framed shear wall design example is presented from the "CFSEI Cold-Formed Steel Framed Wood Panel or Steel Sheet Sheathed Shear Wall Assemblies Design Guide" (CFS Shear Wall Design Guide).Speaker Bio: Mr. Jeff Ellis, P.E., S.E., Manager of Codes, Standards & Special Projects for Simpson Strong-Tie Company Inc., has more than 21 years of experience in the construction industry.
