Adolescent vocational school students in Switzerland, between the ages of 12 and 19 years, and who received text messages through the smoking cessation program SMS-COACH, smoked fewer cigarettes than their peers who received no text messages. Occasional smokers in the program who received the messages also made more attempts to quit smoking than occasional smokers who received no messages. The text messages used in the program included motivational messages, support messages, and tips for stopping smoking.
