Description
This book contains numerous pithy essays on a variety of topics in the fields of Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE). I think you will find these essays a perfect introduction to SHE, interesting, and applicable. The information contained in the essays can be used to prevent accidents that otherwise would result in injuries, illnesses, and property damage. Preventing these accidents can save valuable resources. You can also improve employee morale and product quality by preventing accidents.
I put them together as a source of my writings on Safety, Health, and Environment penned over a period of 20 years. This book does not include writings that I have the copyright under contract. My timing for publishing this book is to commemorate the 100th anniversary for what I believe is the seminal event for fire safety. That is the Triangle Waist Factory fire in New York City. This was a waist or shirt factory with mostly young women working for low wages in poor conditions. Many of these young women were immigrants supporting families with their wages.
At the time of this fire there were labor movements striving to improve the working conditions of these young women. The fire added support to these movements and helped get a number of fire safety rules passed in New York.
From that event the safety profession took off. The safety profession later combined with occupational health and later still with environmental protection professionals. In some organizations the word safety leads the title while in others environmental leads the title. In some organizations these duties are done by three people and in others all three duties are done by a single person. This reduction to a single person is based on the cost of salaries. Managers believe that the three duties integrated into one person rather than three provides cost savings.
I have included essays on safety, health, and environment in this book that I have found applicable during my years working with health, fitness and first aid. I think you will find them applicable too. It is my hope that you have an opportunity to actually use the information in these essays in your work.
