Description

The destruction of the twin towers on 9/11 took the life of Sunny Chandler and turned the world of her husband, Tack, upside down. Caught up in the aftermath of the attack, Tack Chandler nearly succumbs to dispair in the wake of his loss.
A newly retired government operative for the "agency" , he sees one of the airplanes commandeered by terrorists fly over Central Park on its way to the WTC.
Over the years the park has become a refuge and his "moveable feast". Tack eventually climbs out of a deep, nightmarish black hole of dreams and starts on an adventurous journey from New York to Miami, Iraq, Syria, Paris, and finally back to Central Park which plays a major role in the book.
As a diversion, he works for his best friend's company that transports art and artifacts around the world. He rescues art and refugees in the line of duty. Tack's story draws on contemporary events in cities around the world as he moves toward a singular event on Christmas Eve when a mysterious light hovers over the carousel in the park where friends, families, observers and children gather on a snowy night.
Tack has several near misses along the way. He suffers a knife wound when he assists an Israeli agent in an attempt to capture of a fugitive German war criminal in Damascus. He is almost killed in a fight with a man who shoots a beautiful Muslim who is the first woman Chandler is attracted to since the death of his wife in the World Trade Center horror of 9/11.
Throughout ONE CHRISTMAS EVE IN CENTRAL PARK Tack is disarmingly honest about his innermost thoughts and observations of contempory life. And he opens a window on how our culture approaches the Christmas season and the sometimes unexplained events that follow.
Engagingly written, the author employs extensive use of the stream of consciousness technique and the words of various poets that add depth to this adventurous and thoughtful tale of heroism in several forms, with perhaps the world's most famous cityscape at its heart.
