In Book #1, Katie Mackenzie is distraught after her mother Isabelle’s diagnosis with a tumor. According to the doctor, she has at most eighteen months to live. Just before the eighteen month mark, Katie’s mother vanishes without a trace. In total desperation, Katie and her best friend Chloe go in search of the history behind the mysterious Walsh Family and their magical heirlooms which they feel have some connection with Isabelle’s disappearance.
They discover that Katie’s mother was magically whisked back in time to be with Lord James Walsh at Bella Rose Manor. There, her mother is living on, cured by the Walsh family’s magic.

During Isabelle’s stay, Reid Walsh becomes captivated with the stories that Isabelle tells of her beautiful daughter Katie in the 20th Century. He finds himself compelled to meet her.

After doing so and finding his unfinished manuscript in the Mackenzie’s costume shop, Reid returns it to his brother James, but not his enchanted bracelet. His unwavering desire to see the woman who is dominating his every waking thought is driving him insane. He returns to see Katie one more time.

With the night of the town ball looming ahead, and Katie unable to get Reid Walsh out of her mind, she accepts the offer from Clay – Chloe’s new boyfriend’s brother – to escort her to the ball.
