A former Confederate officer turned lawyer leaves his home in Virginia to move west and settle down in Texas. He's lost his home and family to the war and land barons, so desires to start a new in a fresh location as a rancher. He faces hostile renegade Cherokee in the Oklahoma Indian Territory, Texas land barons and cattle rustlers. Duty calls as he journeys to Mingus to help an old war friend who is now a Texas Ranger, as they combine efforts to free a community of settlers from a religious gangster leader and his gang of cutthroats. On the way he intends to recruit ranch hands for his new ranch in Paris, Texas. He finds a new love, giving him a reason worth fighting for, and a second chance to build a life.
