Alan reached across the table and placed his hand on top of hers, looking deeply into her light brown eyes. Mia felt a jolt and tried to pull her hand away. He refused to let it go. He started rubbing his thumb back and forth across her wrist. "When are you going to stop running and talk to me about that night? We’re attracted to each other and we need to deal with it.†She started to say something but then Alan held up his other hand. "Don't try to deny it. I’m only touching your hand and your pulse is going wild. That night we spent together proved that something powerful is going on and a lot more.â€
Mia looked away from him stared out the window of the restaurant. The wind had risen and it was blowing the leaves in the trees in the small park across the street. She could feel Alan willing her to look at him. Being this close to him was making her heart race out of control. She took a deep breath and turned her head back to look in his handsome face. “All right. I'll admit that much since we both know it’s true. Why are we talking about this now?"
"It's been months since we slept together and we still have this attraction between us. If it was fleeting, it would have fizzled out by now. The kisses we shared the last time we were in each other’s presence provided further proof that we have something going on between us. No matter how much time has passed it’s still as strong as it was at the beginning. I want to explore these growing feelings we have for each other."
Mia gave him an incredulous look. She had almost talked herself into getting involved with him and he had to go and spoil it with this nonsense about having feelings for her. He had her up until that point. He sounded so sincere. "Really? You must have me confused with one of your other women. Because the last time I checked we spent one night together and you couldn’t get away from me fast enough. You couldn’t be found the next morning. Where is this attraction you keep talking about?†She snatched her hand back.
His eyes flashed. “There are no other women. I haven’t been involved with anyone since we were together.â€
She pinned him with a searing look. "It doesn’t matter. There is nothing going on between us other than lust and there never will be. You think that the female race was put on planet earth strictly for your enjoyment. I guess you flash that sexy smile of yours and women just fall all over themselves.â€
He narrowed his eyes at her dangerously. Mia chose to ignore it. “You consider me the one who got away and you don’t like to lose.†With all your smooth talk, I wouldn’t fall in with your plans like all the rest of the willing female who cross your path. Since that didn't work you've had to come up with a new plan. The night of your brother’s wedding you were just testing the waters and I fell right into your trap."
Mia was really building up a full head of steam. "How big a fool do you think I am? Your usual bull hasn't worked so you've come up with a new strategy. You think all you have to do is whisper sweet words in my ear about exploring feelings between us, and before you know it I'll be flat on my back with you between my legs, again." Mia leaned back and crossed her arms. "I have to give it to you though, you are good. You sounded so sincere. I almost believed you. With all the practice you’ve had, I’d be surprised if you weren’t.
“However, I quickly came to my senses. Because the bottom line is a man like you would never be in a serious relationship with any woman. You think we’re all fair game. Tell you what though. If I ever want a one-night stand I’ll give you a call. After all, that is what you're good at, isn't it?"
